Eclectus
Eclectus are remarkable birds and ideally suited as a pet. When taught properly, they are capable of speech and tricks from a very young age. The ability of the Eclectus to communicate with humans is a result of their extremely inquisitive nature, a feature strongly linked to their life in the rainforest canopy. The rainforest habitat is an environment requiring a heightened visual & audible intellect to master. They can be found in the lowlands and foothills closely associated with tropical rainforest and drier monsoon woodland.
These highly intelligent birds are very animated and love to participate in interactive activities and in doing so, will quickly become acquainted with a daily routine. Eclectus can be kept with other parrot species although it is extremely important that any new bird is introduced in the correct fashion. Eclectus love to play and climb all over their cage. The cage should be roomy and have several different types of interactive toys to choose from. Your Eclectus should be given a color free & dye free pellet along with a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes on a daily basis. Their feathers seem more like fine hairs, with such an amazing display of color. Sexing is not required with this species as Male Eclectus are vibrant Green with some Red and Blue, and their beak as they get older looks like a brightly colored candy corn. The Female’s are stunning Crimson Red with some Purplish Blue, and a solid black beak.
